A lot of people think the definition of success comes by hard work – and they wouldn’t be wrong.  Some think it takes a lot of money or luck to become successful, and they aren’t necessarily wrong either.  It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about business, or perhaps a body transformation, your road to success will be turbulent in every way.  It will be difficult at times, and just when you think you’re making some headway, you’ll find yourself back down at the bottom of the mountain, looking up at an endless journey.

But what you, and many others may not know, is how success often looks exactly like this.  It’s not supposed to be as simple as clicking your fingers or just wishing something good would happen.  Sure that’s how it works on occasion, but for very few people, and very few times.  Some of the most successful people in the history of mankind have had to fail over and over and over again before they became successful.

What-Successful-People-know

When it comes to transforming your body, you may have to try many modes of exercise, coupled with different ways of eating.  It’s not easy, and it’s like picking a lock.  It takes patience and intelligence to break the code of fat loss, or even  increasing muscle hypertrophy.  Everyone reacts differently to different situations – and it’s our ability to process the information we gain and respond by doing it better the next time.

While others will thrive off a diet of red meat, free weights and protein shakes, others will whither at the mere thought of it.  Some people are made for long distance running rather than power lifting or high intensity ‘cardio’ like activity like sprinting.  The main thing to remember is, if it isn’t working, change it – and don’t be discouraged if you need to change things up five, ten or twenty times before you find some version of success.

But there are a few things you can do to dramatically increase your chances of success.  Firstly, you need to get some professional accountability.  There are a ton of studies which back up this fact.  People generally adhere to a programme when a professional gives it to them.  Not only will you get professional information that can help you with your problem, but you’ll also feel more obliged to follow the professionals help.  It could be a personal trainer, or a doctor, or a nutritionist.  All of them can help you in transforming your body and helping you become a happier and more confident person.

Another thing you need to do is to learn how to plan and prepare yourself better.  There was a quote by Benjamin Franklin I used back in my Undergrad for a presentation that went “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail” and you need to learn how to do this effectively for any success to come your way.  If you’re not prepared for the unexpected, there’s a good chance you’re going to fall back on the bad habits you are likely relying on right now.

Instead, have a Plan A and a Plan B for every situation you may find yourself in.  Common ones include social events like eating out.  How can you possibly stick to a nutrition plan when you’re out for dinner with friends? But it is possible, you just need to plan for it.  It’s more work but it will be well worth it.

Next is social support; there is little chance of success of achieving fat loss if your best friend, spouse or work colleague is bringing you fast food takeaway meals every five minutes.  Having the right people around you is vital for maintaining momentum, keeping confidence high and maintaining a positive attitude.  Studies have shown that this can be online as well as ‘real-world’.  Simply logging into weight loss forums can dramatically increase a persons chances of success.

Next, you have to give yourself something to work for.  Dangle the carrot for yourself.  You need to look forward to something in order to succeed.  Whether it’s the thought of hitting the beach with a 6-pack, in the bikini you bought last summer or  fitting back into that dress you really like.  The prize at the end of the fight is always going to be a good incentive for you to behave and stay focused.

And the final thing is a deadline learn the facts here now.  Too many people are on a never ending journey.  There is no time limit, and without a deadline there is no pressure, no rush and no big deal to make sure you are doing the things you need to do in order to be where you want to be.

In other words, you’re going to fail with this approach.

So if you’re struggling with something and can’t seem to get it right, try those points and see if they can work for you.  I’m fairly certain that if you apply them and remain consistent to them, you will succeed far quicker than you can imagine.

Sherill David, Doha

I have been training with Personal Trainers for a long time, and nobody has got more out of me than Craig. He understands the way the body works so well, and can adjust the workout accordingly. I was sad to see Craig leave, but look forward to a good workout when he comes back for a holiday!

Rebecca Fitzgerald, Dunmurray, Ireland

I bumped into a friend who I haven't seen in a while yesterday, and she couldn't get over how well I look! My confidence is soaring! Thank you Craig
